Rural private sector development

The private sector is the main engine of growth. Private sector development is thus crucial for increasing the pace of growth. This is not only of particular importance to urban areas but to rural ones as well. Developing countries have a strong need in fostering a policy and institutional environment that enables the private sector to flourish and act as an effective driver of pro-poor growth. This requires addressing the needs and recognising and maximising the contribution of the many informal enterprises, family-run farms and self employed people, as well as those of formal and large businesses.
