Agrobiodiversity
Biological diversity is about more than plants, animals, micro organisms and their ecosystems – it is about people and our need for food security, medicines, fresh air and water, shelter, and a clean and healthy environment in which to live. Biodiversity provides a large number of goods and services that sustain our lives. But biodiversity is currently decreasing at a rapid pace and it has become a challenge to maintain the world's ecological base as we go about the business of economic development. The following issues are of key importance: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits from the use of genetic resources.
