75% of the world's poorlive in rural areas. Therefore, agriculture and rural development are central to poverty reduction. The rural population in developing countries faces major new challenges. Global warming has impacted on agriculture more than on almost any other sector. By supporting farmers in the areas of production, marketing and sustainable use of resources, SDC is making a substantial contribution to poverty reduction.
